The Workin Moms Introduction
Welcome to The Workin Moms blog! Let me introduce myself. I’m Melissa, one half of The Workin Moms duo. My partner Alessia is the other half. We are setting out to help, inspire, maybe even demystify the process of starting a business while having a young family. This blog is about our journey to entrepreneurship and all the ups and downs along the way. We will share our wins, our fails, some products we use, how we manage working from home with littles, parenting stages we are currently working through and we may even share what we are cooking for dinner. Our goal here is to inspire you to take that leap if you are thinking about starting your own business.
Background
A little background about us. Alessia and I met while we were working for a remote insurance company. We both had similar experience in our previous jobs and we both worked in other countries before settling back in Canada. I live on the west coast and Alessia lives on the east coast and at this point, we haven’t even met each other in person but we hit it off from day one. I’ll never forget the day at work when I told Alessia I was pregnant. She became quiet on our call for a few seconds then said “you’ll never guess but me too!” We were due within a couple months of each other, both with our first.
All through our maternity leaves, we chatted weekly about the joys and the challenges we were experiencing. One day during one of our chats, Alessia told me that she wasn’t going to return back to the job we had. To be honest, I really wasn’t looking forward to heading back there myself. I had already been pondering over starting my own business. It is something I have dreamed about doing for years but I never had the guts to do it. I was always scared of failure, scared of rejection and scared of the unknown. On a whim, I mentioned it to Alessia that I wanted to start my own business and to my surprise, we wanted to learn more. We had a very lengthy conversation that day about hopes and dreams and what the future could look like. That is also the day that all my dreams started becoming reality.
Where we are now
We spent months researching, planning and dreaming up a business. Building a website, socials, logos and more all while our littles had their first steps, their 2nd or 3rd cold that month, while we were figuring out what to cook for dinner. There have been times the whole process has seemed too hard. Too much of a struggle. But, we pushed through even when it seemed impossible. We launched our business just a few weeks ago and it is our hope that we inspire you to do the same.
